As we celebrate our 10th Anniversary, we also mark a significant milestone and after 25 years in the architectural industry, Mathew Smalley is taking early retirement in the coming weeks. This decision coincides with a significant milestone for us, making it a fitting moment to reflect on our journey to date, whilst looking forward to the future.

Mathew has played an influential role in shaping SMR’s culture, focusing on studio management and legislative compliance. Under the guidance of our Director team, SMR has grown into one of Yorkshire’s largest and most respected practices, known for its capability and excellence across multiple sectors.

Our success is built on collaboration, both within our team and with our clients and peers. We are deeply grateful for your unwavering support and trust, which have been crucial in achieving our goals.

While Mathew’s departure marks the end of an era, Amanda Marsey, Simon Rispin, and our Leadership Team are ready to ensure a smooth transition. We remain committed to maintaining high standards and delivering innovative solutions, with a focus on ESG, technological innovation, and meeting client needs.

A Personal Message from Mathew: “I’ve absolutely loved these past ten years and want to express my heartfelt gratitude to our talented Team, loyal Clients, and key Peers who have been instrumental in SMR’s accomplishments. While I will miss the Team and the culture we’ve created, I know Amanda and Simon have some exciting plans on the horizon and you’re in safe hands.

I’m looking forward to embarking on this next phase of my life. I will always cherish my time at SMR and thank you for making it such a rewarding experience.”
