SMR named ‘Architect of the Year 2023’

Awards

UK Real Estate Investment & Infrastructure Forum’s (UKREiiF’s)  Conference took place in Leeds from 16-18 May 2023, the event attracted more than 6,500 attendees, including representatives from the public sector and Government, as well as investors, funders housebuilders, and Property Consultants.

A key part of this year’s UKREiiF Conference was the UKREiiF Festival of Achievement Awards, which celebrates the best in class within the UK’s real estate, property, investment, and infrastructure sectors. With over 30 practices vying for the accolade, SMR was delighted to be named Spirit of Achievement – Architect of the Year.

The Judging Panel was looking for an outstanding architectural practice based on business success and quality of design output, including a commitment to sustainability and diversity. SMR’s submission was strongly influenced by our ESG journey and how as an SME we are actively trying to do our part to address the climate emergency and promote EDI.

SMR is always proud of our team’s achievements, but to be recognised by a panel consisting of major influencers in the industry such as Lord Bob Kerslake, Thames Estuary’s Envoy Kate Willard, and L&G’s Investment Director Pete Gladwell, made the award all the sweeter.

SMR’s Managing Director, Amanda Marsey noted: “UKREiiF is now a key date within the Property calendar, and I am delighted to see SMR win an award at a national event. The accolade reflects our continued desire to build cross-industry relationships, embedded through innovative solutions to tackle the climate emergency.”

Speaking of the winners, Chief Executive of UKREiiF Keith Griffiths stated: “We were incredibly surprised by the high number of quality submissions for the Festival of Achievement, and it was really difficult to cut these down to the shortlist and then the eventual winners. I must thank the Advisory Group for their involvement in helping to select the winners, and congratulations to all of those both shortlisted and winners.”

Congratulations to all the award winners and the other ‘Architect of the Year’ finalists: TODD Architects, MCAU, Chapman Taylor, AHR, Grimshaw, CGL, GT3 Architects, Cartwright Pickard & Fairhurst Design Group.
