Team SMR- Our Summer Update

Blogs SMR News Staff News

SMR have had a very productive & packed summer! Our team have been working hard on many different projects and to keep spirits high during these months, we have been taking part in some wellbeing focused activities. Our July Wellness Wednesday took us away from our desks, outside the office & out on the stray for our annual sports day. many of us engaged in a competitive rounders match (where team B triumphed!), along with volleyball and badminton games. The day was capped off with a delightful picnic on the grass in the sunshine.

August’s Wellness Wednesday included a Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) workshop organised by Hikmat, which encouraged us to recognise the signs in our behaviour when we are doing well and not doing well and structure our routines in a way that promotes positive mental health and incorporates our personal values.

Work Experience

This summer we have had three different work experience members come to SMR: Abanoub, Evie & Oliver. Each explored and experimented with software like Revit & Twinmotion that are used in our practice to fulfil projects. they were given a brief to help them learn and engage with the software.

“Using the site identified develop your dream house, which will provide all the elements you would want a ‘money no object’ home to include. Think about your future plans & what you may wish to include now for future use.”

This includes creating:

  • Site plan base drawing (Sketching on A3 sheets – Scale 1:500)
  • List of intended rooms
  • ‘mindmap’ layout connecting rooms/floors
  • Scale sketches of floor layouts (Sketching)
  • Basic drawing on Revit (Create model from template in 03_Revit Dream House Template files)
  • Draw up plans of each floor & roof (& Setup Sheet)
  • Elevations (Revit)
  • Sections
  • Colour drawings

New Starters

Team SMR has grown over the summer, with a number of additional recruits to support our existing teams across all sectors, as we see new instructions from clients new and old. All of the new starters, a mix of Architectural Assistant Part IIs, Architects and a Project Technician, have immediately fitted into our wider team, and settled in well. A warm welcome to Morgan T, Josh C, Andrew, Julius & Alex. We’re looking forward to seeing them continue to grow. Meanwhile, we continue to look to expand our team.
