Our marvellous May and joyful June
SMR News Staff News
May Wellness Wednesday– We kicked off the summer period with a bang! We took ourselves away from our desks and headed over to Knaresborough for a mystery trail around the town. We split into teams and chased clues throughout the charming town, capping it off with a much-deserved ice cream stop.
Lunch Club– In May we relished Jamaican Curried Chicken with rice and peas from Tobi, Chicken and Lentil Soup, and Hikmat’s sfouf (Lebanese Turmeric cake) for dessert. For June’s we savoured Moughrabeyeh- a pearl couscous dish with Chicken and chickpeas by Hikmat, Jonny’s Pulled Pork Tacos, and Homay’s cheesecake. All the dishes were incredibly delicious!
June’s Wellness Wednesday– To seize June’s sunny summer weather, SMR Architects got all dolled up for a lively day at York Racecourse for some horse racing fun! We dabbled in a bit of betting and indulged in some delicious food and drinks. A fun day was had by all.
Lastly, our ladies had a lovely lunch at Alexander to give our best wishes to Kat as she goes on her maternity leave.
New Starters
Summer has been a busy growth period at SMR, as our client base continues to grow, and our projects progress at pace. As a result, SMR has udnertaken a proactive recruitment drive and strengthened our team.
Our summer recruitment drive has been geared towards the ongoing support of our profession’s development, on-boarding of a new generation of new talent:
Hardeep– returning to SMR as an Architectural Assistant Part II, Hardeep will continue his skills development in our busy Retail team. Welcome home Hardeep!
Hussain– having impressed us during his end of second year presentations at Leeds Beckett University, Hussain was offered a year-out placement to develop his skillset. SMR love supporting the LBU AT course and it’s great to see Hussain already becoming an enthusiast asset to the Ecomm team.
Kieren– in order to expand his experience, Kieren has relocated to Yorkshire to join SMR. He is ambitious and keen to progress towards achieving his Part 3. To assist this journey, Kieren has quickly embedded himself within the I&L team to gain large-scale project experience.
Phoebe– Joins us straight from Sheffield Hallam University having completed her MArch Architecture. Phoebe’s ambition and excellent communication skills means she hit the ground running within her Ecomm role.
Amanda Marsey noted, “It is so important that every RIBA Chartered practice continues to focus on identifying young talent and giving them the opportunity to learn and progress within Architecture and the wider Construction Industry. SMR has a fantastic Professional Academy that this group will all benefit from and in turn our clients will have access to this talented and ambitious group.
Team SMR has warmly welcomed Hardeep, Hussain, Kieren & Pheobe, and they are quickly becoming ingrained within SMR’s Culture, I looked forward to supporting their growth and development.”
