Project Cherry Design Competition, influencing Design Standards
SMR were one of four practices that undertook a review of traditional institutional standard as a ‘Project Cherry’ exercise, to re-imagine the GLP standard for office and welfare accommodation. SMR developed proposals for the new Office entrance, reception, and façade treatment which has now become the standard for GLP developments across the UK and beyond.
The SMR design provided a new focal entrance by introducing a striking sloped LED-lit feature entrance surround and enhanced facade proposals with the intention of providing additional natural daylight within the office areas.
The interior design proposals were driven by the desire to incorporate sustainable, low-carbon materials with a particular emphasis on utilising the ‘cradle to grave’ ethos of incorporating materials that can be reused/recycled at the end of their respective design life.
We continue to work alongside GLP on UK site feasibilities and coordinate fit-out works for a number of operators taking GLP space.
