Middlesbrough E-Commerce Facility, Net-Zero Development
SMR Architects are proud to be leading the design and delivery of the UK’s first net-zero ‘last mile’ e-commerce logistics centre, located in Middlesbrough. Construction commencing May 2025 and completing summer 2026, the 12,000 m² facility is being developed to meet ambitious sustainability targets, with materials and systems carefully selected to support net-zero performance.
The building will undergo certification through the International Living Future Institute, a process in which the client has played a key role. The site will feature extensive infrastructure, including 757 van parking spaces, 221 car parking spaces, cycle shelters, and designated smoking areas.
SMR has worked collaboratively with the client and multidisciplinary teams to ensure the project aligns with both operational and environmental goals, setting a new benchmark for sustainable logistics development in the UK.
