Lidl, Fleet Durham Rd Retail Park
New Store Development
SMR Architects were commissioned by Lidl to provide architectural services for the design and delivery of a new store on a 1.1-hectare site in Fleet, Hampshire, previously occupied by a park-and-ride facility.
The proposed scheme includes a 1,949 sqm (20,978 sqft) Lidl store with associated parking, set within a predominantly residential area and close to a vibrant community hub. The design integrates the store into a ‘heathland-style’ landscape, enhancing biodiversity and creating a welcoming environment for both customers and staff.
Architectural features pay tribute to the local vernacular, incorporating red brick, timber detailing, and colonnades to soften the building’s massing. Extensive glazing along the main elevation facing Elvetham Heath Way ensures an open and inviting frontage.
Beyond regenerating the site, the development is expected to contribute to local economic growth, creating up to 40 new jobs.
