Marton cum Grafton

SMR worked in collaboration with the Client on two dwellings on a site of greenfield land within a conservation area in the site of Marton cum Grafton. The two dwellings are highly bespoke in nature to respond to the individual context within the site.

The design of the first dwelling based on a local farmhouse typology correlating with the established immediate context of the village. The materials palette reflects the immediate and local character of the village including a clay pantile roof. Detailing is simple to reflect the agricultural character of the proposed dwelling, allowing the dwelling to sit comfortably in its surroundings and be seen as a natural extension of the village.

The second building has the typology of a converted barn or outbuilding. The look and detailing of the second building are simple, clean and crisp with an effort to hide or remove external complexity and formality typical of a traditional dwelling house.
