SMR Architects are acting as Designers on behalf of Lateral Property Group on Fairfield Way in Whitby. Following planning approval being granted in December 2017, we are now working at RIBA stage 5, Construction.

The development site consists of brownfield land once occupied by Sky Scaffolding and W Eves who have recently relocated, the site is adjacent to an existing Homebase store.

The new Lateral proposal, in line with the planning approved strategy, creates a ‘gateway site’ for Whitby, comprising 16,000 sq ft A1 M&S Foodhall (including ‘Click & Collect’ facilities) and a 16,920 sq ft A1 ALDI store, along with a dedicated customer car park.  The scheme will include a contemporary mix of cladding and shopfront glazing, with strong pedestrian links to the parking located in front of this terrace design.

The appoint Contractor, Havercroft Construction, gained entry to the site at the end of April 2018. Havercroft have a great reputation and are experienced in the delivery of Retail and Industrial schemes. This is the first time SMR Architects has had the opportunity of working with Havercroft and we are looking forward to working alongside them to deliver this key project.
