May 2018

We were pleased to welcome Oliver Anderson from Ermysted’s Grammar School in Skipton for Work Experience in May. His first project  was to design his ‘dream home’ from initial concept design, sketching layouts, detailing the scheme using BIM Software and finally creating 3D visualisations, for presentation to our Principal Architect.  Oliver worked passionately, produced an excellent model and his proposals were well thought through and clearly presented.

Following from his success in the dream home project, Oliver asked to stay with SMR a little while longer and tackle a different type of project. Under the care of our Principal Architect, Oliver began to tackle an office development with an unusual circular plan form. Using the skills he had accrued in the first week, he proceeded to design the building, but instead of following standard building techniques, he investigated and utilised sustainable technologies, such as green walls. Sadly time did not allow him to completed the project, but the standard of work and thought that went into his work was exceptional

“I found my Work Experience at SMR Architects extremely useful and beneficial, it opened my eyes to many different areas and showed me things within architecture that I now thoroughly enjoy doing. All the staff were helpful, caring and helped me through every step of my projects throughout the week. The projects I carried out from start to finish were very structured and gave me a great overview of what it is like in real architects working environment”.

Thanks again.
