SMR Architects are pleased to announce a recent appointment to carry out BIM Information Management Services on behalf of Prologis and Winvic Construction, through the construction phase for 2 units as part of Prologis Park – Ryton.

With a keen aspiration to develop a greater understanding of BIM Level 2 deliverables and the potential benefits of the process to both their business and the team during design and construction, Prologis in collaboration with Winvic Construction, appointed SMR architects to assist with this.

Whilst SMR Architects have no design services for this project, acting under an independent information management scope has already provided many benefits for the design team, pushing a much more collaborative working environment, where the team feel confident to share structured, valid and coordinated information much more freely.  The implementation of a BIM Execution Plan developed by SMR Architects has proven to be a key document for the team, as a way of capturing and agreeing processes and protocols, some of which are highlighted below:

  • Roles and responsibilities
  • BIM Strategy
  • Goals and Objectives
  • Model Ownership and Deliverables
  • Collaboration and Exchange strategy aligned to the Construction Programme
  • Common Data Environment Protocols
  • Project Technology Protocols

 

SMR Architects have also started to introduce and test a range of BIM uses with the team including Coordination and Detailing, Clash Detection, Visualisation, Model QA, and COBie.  The team are really starting to see the true benefits of the BIM process and whilst only introduced at construction stage the impact to date has been very good.  Moving forward, it is anticipated that structured BIM implementation will form a key deliverable from the outset, which should provide greater benefits at pre-construction stage and in turn have a positive impact on the construction stage.
