December 2016

SMR Architects recently celebrated their 1st year anniversary and 2015 has proved to be very successful, both for work and socially.  Early in the year it became a key goal for SMR to achieve Investors in People Bronze which was successfully achieved and was pivotal to showcase our collaborative team ethos.

The change to the CDM regulations provided SMR with opportunities to offer principal designer services within SMR.  Following a formal assessment SMR has been confirmed as Compliant on the CHAS accreditation database, under the CHAS Health & Safety Pre-Qualification Scheme, not only for the Designer criteria but also the new Principal Designer role.

BIM has formed a key focus of the business over the last few years, seeing the development of internal processes, workflows and standards to align to BIM Level 2 requirements.  Following the successful completion of the Waitrose Ambient Distribution Facility, SMR also offered BIM Information Manager services, which delivered the client and team valuable and useable data results for ongoing Operations and Maintenance.  This scheme successfully secured SMR Architects first award for collaboration utilising BIM processes and off the back of this SMR now offer BIM Coordinator and Information Management services.

Tesco Rotherham was also shortlisted for two awards this year which gave SMR good exposure within the construction industry.  Firstly Constructing excellence in Yorkshire and Humber and then Project of the year over £5M.

2015 has seen the involvement and delivery of numerous schemes for John Lewis Partnership including, Leeds and West London.  In addition to this, work at Chichester for Brookhouse Group came to fruition seeing the appointment of PPE Contractors.  SMR Architects are also pleased to announce a new and growing client relationship with the pan-European Supermarket chain, Lidl. We are delivering architectural services on a variety of feasibility designs for new store locations throughout the UK. Once board approved these will continue through the planning process and onto site in due course.

Having seen a very successful year working on a number of projects with both existing and new clients, it was only as matter of time before the SMR team would be growing and this year saw Jess and Jake join us.

SMR have worked very hard this year, but its only right to have some social time to go with it and SMR’s first away day in the summer took us to the York races.  Throughout the year we have also had The Cube team building day, Cheese Thursday, evenings out and Christmas Jumper Day.
