Mixed Use development on behalf of Tesco Stores, anchored with a food retail supermarket.

The brief was to design a community focused large format Food Store with associated developments, which included a shopping pavilion and outdoor play / fitness areas to rejuvenate the local area, plus a Petrol Filling Station. The scheme design was also to achieve a low carbon footprint and trial the ‘store of the future’ concepts.

Our Design team worked closely with the client and local community during the Feasibility stage trailing numerous concept ideas and achieved planning for 110,000Sqft superstore and the associated developments. The client engaged local community involvement through the installation of five locally inspired / created sculptures around the site.

The scheme incorporated numerous environmental design features: roof lights to flood the store with natural light, a CO2 refrigeration system and heat recovery which will take heat from the refrigeration units and recirculate it back through the store. It is also the first Extra store that only uses LED lights.

The scheme was shortlisted for the ISG Store Design of the Year at the Oracle Retail Week Awards 2015.
