SMR Architects were commissioned by the omnichannel retailer, John Lewis & Partners, to assisted with the creation of a new facility in Southampton. The client required additional customer delivery hub capacity to serve Southampton and the wider south coast region.

A number of site feasibilities were undertaken in the region, before the final site was identified. John Lewis successfully collaborated with Peel Logistics to strategically delivery this build-to-suit facility, SMR assisted to ensure their exact needs and design was delivered on time and to specification. This site replaces the retailer’s existing warehouse provision, located in Southampton city centre, and the new facility operational by April 2019.

The circa 46,500 sq. ft BREEAM ‘Excellent’, state-of-the-art logistics unit, forms part of Peel Logistics Property’s South Central 202,000 sq. ft urban logistics development. The bespoke warehouse building allows rapid turnaround of parcels delivered directly from the hub to people’s homes, supported by 4,600 sq. ft office and welfare space for the John Lewis Partners comprising; Conference/training facilities, kitchen & dining area, a variety of office spaces and plant room.  In addition, the building has 18 docks and mixed parking for 105 vehicles. The park was built by Readie Construction and the JLP Hub fitted out by Warden Construction.
