This 940,000 sq/ft facility provides Waitrose with a national distribution hub for ambient product in the UK. Working on behalf of Waitrose, SMR Architects provided design and delivery services for the fit out of this facility and is now operational.

The shell, service core and external facilities were provided through developer Gazeleys, whilst the careful internal planning to meet Waitrose requirements was developed by SMR Architects.  The scheme posed a series of collaboration challenges with two separate design teams working towards the same end goal.  As a result of this, BIM Level 2 processes and technologies were adopted to provide model coordination, clash detection, visualisation, scheduling, and facilities management through a post completion asset model underpinned with data driven by Waitrose FM.

SMR Architects also acted as BIM Coordinator on behalf of Winvic to set up and manage the standards, protocols and processes for the BIM: through to completion and handover. The main warehouse offers approximately 53,000 pallet racking slots, managed through inbound and outbound office facilities and loading bays.  A main office hub over two floors provides the partners with main access to the building, changing facilities and a gym, dining and breakout facilities, together with a series of office and meeting facilities to ensure successful operation of the facility.
