SMR Architects were delighted to be appointed to complete John Lewis’ first Northern Customer Delivery Hub.  In conjunction with Simons Group, SMR Architects assisted with the design and delivery of this BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rated facility.  The 50,500 sq ft state-of-the-art distribution warehouse forms part of Muse’s flagship Logic Park, Leeds 110-acre development in the Leeds City Region Enterprise Zone.  John Lewis and the project management team were particularly impressed with the outstanding site organisation, management and execution of the project.

The facility reinforces John Lewis’ commitment to the region and will support sales from stores in York, which opened in April 2014 and Leeds, which opened October 2016.  The £2M fit-out project is based on SMR’s layout which responds to the varying operations planned for the hub. The 7,000 sq ft two storey office element includes transport offices, welfare and Partner facilities, large open plan offices, meeting rooms and catering space, along with ‘training house’ facilities.

Alongside our architectural services, SMR provided Principal Designer Advice and BIM Information Management to support Simons Group.

Mark Robinson, Director of Customer Delivery Operations at John Lewis, said:

“I’m delighted that we are opening a new Customer Delivery Hub in the Leeds area. This will allow us to successfully support our customers in the Leeds catchment and surrounding areas with the wide range of delivery, installation and assembly services we have on offer for our customers.”

David Wells, Regional Director of Muse in Leeds, explained:

“John Lewis is a real milestone in the Logic Leeds story. The decision by such a major and well-respected player in the British retail industry to come to Logic Leeds was a ringing endorsement of our development and put it firmly on the map.”

Roger Marsh, Chairman of the Leeds Local Enterprise Council, agreed:

“I’m delighted to welcome John Lewis Partnership to the Leeds City Region Enterprise Zone. Its new state of the art distribution centre at Logic Leeds, further bolsters the Zone’s existing cluster in e-fulfilment, distribution, printing and packaging.”
