SMR takes Corporate Social Responsibility seriously and its an important focus for our whole team. We are aware of our standing within the community in which we operate and are committed to behaving in an ethical and socially responsible manner.

Charity

SMR Architects believes in strength through partnership and are proud members of the Saint Michael’s Hospice – Guild of Patrons; a local group of businesses who are committed to working together to improve the lives of residents in the communities in which they operate.

This praiseworthy charity exists to improve the lives of people affected by terminal illness; by offering physical, emotional, psychological, practical and spiritual care to patients and their families.  They also run Saint Michael’s@Starbeck a support hub and Just ‘B’ a centre for children and adults who are struggling to come to terms with a bereavement. Each year, expert care is provided to more than 2,400 people who are living with illnesses. St Michael’s are able to care for the majority of these individuals as outpatients and more than that, support their friends and family too.

Localism

Supporting the local community is an important aspect on our CSR agenda. We activity encourage and collaborate with local schools; inviting in potential architects of the future. These work experience placements, guide students through a project to design their ‘dream home’. We also have good working relations with local Universities and exhibit at Universities, supporting their Architecture Department careers fairs.

We are a local employer and use local suppliers wherever possible; our IT, stationery and smaller suppliers are all Harrogate based.

Sustainability

Our very nature impacts upon the environment, therefore we aim to operate to seek to reduce the unnecessary usage of water, energy and materials to sustain resources. We have also targeted the attainment of ISO 14001:2004.

We believe in ‘honesty’ and conduct ourselves with integrity in all business relationships and foster the development of excellent supplier and consultant relationships.

People

We safeguard and support our staff, encouraging personal and professional development on an ongoing basis. We have also made the commitment to our staff to always ensure they are fairly paid.
