Warrington Fulfilment Centre

September 2017

SMR Architects who were appointed by ISG Retail, have recently completed the major extension and fit-out of a 1,000,000 sqft logistics facility in Omega Park South, Warrington. The works included; the installation of two 300,000 sqft mezzanine floors, a 35,000 sqft office extension and full fit-out of the existing offices, the construction of a new 8,000 sqft four storey transport hub, new vertical circulation cores and a full reconfiguration of the site, including providing a 200-space decked car park and major HGV access alterations.

The £50M project responds to the end user’s specific requirements and design standards, enabling a fully automated operation. Each sectional completion was achieved in line with programme and to the clients exacting standards. The building has been very well received, with the client team’s European Director stating, this was the best project this year.

Mark Green, ISG Retail, Divisional Operations Director added “Key relationships played a huge part in delivering this facility. Timelines from initial contact with the client to commencement onsite were extremely tight, we engaged with a consultant team that have 20 years experience of working with key members of ISG. Our collaboration with SMR and Pinnacle proved invaluable to the overall success of the scheme. I am extremely proud to be associated with a great delivery on our first Logistics project and to be part of this dynamic, forward-thinking team.”

Simon Rispin, SMR Director noted “The delivery and associated design period, certainly was fast track. SMR is delighted to have stepped up to the challenge, forge new operator relationships and continue to work alongside ISG on game changing projects. It really was a team effort both externally with a range of other consultants and ISGs dedicated site team, and internally where it was ‘all hands to the pump’ at times to keep ahead with the design and support the planning process. The accolades and positive response from the operator certainly makes the effort worthwhile, we’re delighted to have been involved.

ISG and SMR are currently growing their collaborative partnership, and are well underway with a 1,000,000 sqft New Build fulfillment centre on Central Park, Severn beach in Avonmouth.

Unanimous Approval for the new Lidl Store – Knaresborough

September 2017

SMR Architects has recently assisted in gaining a unanimous decision for a full planning approval for the new Lidl Store in Knaresborough.  Acting on behalf of Lidl UK GmbH, the new store on Chain Lane will provide a new modern food store of circa. 23,000 sq.ft with dedicated car parking and landscaping; this scheme replaces the existing Lidl on York Road, which has become too small to meet growing demand in the town.  Approval for the development was also welcomed by Knaresborough Town Council who announced their support during the committee meeting on September 26th 2017.

Graham Burr, Lidl’s Regional Head of Property said: “We are delighted that Harrogate Borough Council’s Planning Committee have given the go ahead for our new store proposals in Knaresborough. The new store will enable us to enhance the shopping and welfare facilities for both customers and employees, whilst positively impacting the local economy with new jobs. I would like to take the opportunity to thank the local community for their continued support over the past months. We will now look to bring the project forward as soon as possible.”

Beth Piggott, Lidl Acquisitions Consultant noted: “SMR Architects  have been responsive and proactive throughout the planning process. They have taken on board comments from both the residents and Lidl, to evolve the scheme and assist Lidl in attaining a viable store design to replace the existing Knaresborough Lidl store. Having secured unanimous approval from the council, we are keen to quickly progress and build out the Store.”

SMR welcomed the decision by Harrogate Borough Council to approve this valuable, much needed amenity for Knaresborough residents and look forward to working with Lidl to bring this project to completion.
