SMR Architects are pleased to announce a new and growing client relationship with the pan-European Supermarket chain, Lidl. We are delivering architectural services on a variety of feasibility designs for new store locations throughout the UK. Once board approved these will continue through the planning process and onto site in due course.

As part of the ongoing surge of development from discount food retailers, SMR will be working closely with the Lidl Property Acquisitions team helping them to achieve their business aspirations and develop their store designs to further progress the Lidl brand.

With just under 4% of the UK grocery market and last year turning over a record £4bn – 21% higher than the previous 12 months, SMR look forward to being part of the drive for the future and delivering new floor space.

This growing relationship works for us on a number of levels, with our new connections meaning we can easily put developer lead schemes to the right Lidl contacts, who are all seeking new site opportunities. We would of course be delighted to work with any retail developers on this kind of new space, and talk through the latest Lidl requirements.

Head of Property at Lidl, Graham Burr commented

We are extremely pleased, to be working with SMR, in connection with our roll-out programme, throughout Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.  In particular, the Practice’s ability, to ‘produce and  revise’ schemes, within incredibly short timescales has been very pleasing. SMR’s attention to detail and quality of schemes is also very positive.

With a development programme, targeting a fifty percent increase in trading stores, by 2020; we see our relationship with SMR developing significantly over the next 12 months, as we seek to rapidly increase our new store opening programme.
